Frequently Asked Questions
Do you rent la Casa for less than a week? No, not really. I pretty much need to stick to weekly rates ($1100/week ) . Of course, if you are in a pinch, and I can help, I will let you PASS GO. Also I enjoy giving discounts to “friends” of CdP and others who request one.
Will I feel comfortable and safe? Absolutely. I am perfectly free to go anywhere I wish in the Santa Maria Barrio and at any time I choose to do so My neighbors and I watch out for each other, and by extension you will be a welcome part of this barrio for the duration of your holiday.
Is Vieques an exciting tourist trip? Really this can be better answered by experts – please contact www.enchanted-isle.com. It is rich with the details you are curious about. You decide your own excitement.
Mosquitoes and other chewing insects? Less here at CdP than anywhere else that I have been on the island. Ever. Almost always we have a good general breeze off the water as well as our special Trade Winds.
So, air conditioning? We do have modest air conditioning because occasionally a guest needs the support of A.C. La Casa is warm-to-cool. But worry not, we furnish blankets if needed.
I like to be spoiled when I’m on vacation, do you provide maid service? No. But we do have a wonderful house-helper who will keep la Casa spiffy for you and your clothes nicely laundered. Ask. You can trust her charges to be fair. There are baby-sitters available, I personally do not know any.
When you say “fully furnished”, do you mean it? Yes, our best efforts usually keep it stocked with even salt and pepper, mosquito spray (see “mosquitos” above), beach towels, and ziploc baggies. But sometimes. . . you know?
Brand-name preferences? If you have a special shampoo or something for allergies, please bring your supply. We may not have your first choice; or even be close.
Thirsty and hungry, too? Vieques is not known for it’s “night-life” as such, but you can get dynamite local specialties and a grand array of most ethnic food adapted for the tastes of “all of us” islanders. Shared with the right people, old friends or new, dinner-out can become your favorite night-life, too. If you “eat-in”, our colmados and supermercados can supply most of what you need.
I have quite a lot of questions right now and we’re already settled in CdP; what do I do? Call the property managers you met when they picked you up at the Vieques airport or ferry, and carried you to la CdP! They, too, are anxious for you to have the best holiday ever. Try it.
What is the best way to travel to Vieques? There are several ways to travel to Vieques including small plane flights from San Juan, and by ferry from the big island to Ysabel Segunda. Our website has a travel section that details some ways to get here, or you may wish to ask your travel agent.
Being frugal and good hikers too, do we really need to rent a car? Yes, we are not a tiny island, and we do have a great variety of natural life to see (do you know of the Bio-Bays?) Do this very early on, please. And have a very special time. One of our guests calls CdP “a slice of paradise.”
