About Vieques

The island of Vieques offers visitors an undiscovered natural paradise. As an US territory, travel to Vieques is easy. This Caribbean island is also one of the most affordable to visit.

Vieques is the eastern most island of the Puerto Rican Archipelago, sometimes referred to as the Spanish Virgin Islands. At just 6 miles wide and 25 miles long, Vieques is small and friendly, yet has miles of gorgeous beaches and two small seaport towns for dining and people-watching.

Vieques is known for natural wonders like free-roaming wild horses, bioluminescent waters, breathtaking beaches, local art galleries and good restaurants, Vieques has much to offer visitors. Travel by car or bike around the island is desirable and car & jeep rentals are readily available. Two town centers of Vieques-- Isabel Segunda on the north coast and Esperanza on the south-- offer a variety of restaurants, shopping and resort facilities as well as water and sporting activities.

Nearly two-thirds of the island is the largest Wildlife Sanctuary in the Caribbean under the protection of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Casa de Playa rests on a small wildlife preserve on the northeastern shore of Vieques.
